Trips or a Set?
A poker online hand with three matched cards is a strong contender for the pot. In Texas Hold ‘Em poker online , players who make three matched cards on the flop are usually happy with the online poker hand and will bet it. However, there are actually two types of three-card hands – trips and a set. Trips occur when one of a player’s pocket cards matches two paired cards on board. It is a strong hand, especially with a good kicker. And it can always improve to a full house or even quads. Trips are vulnerable though since each player can see the paired board and will probably fold to any bet if the flop did not connect with their hands. Trips made with a paired board are less likely to build big pots. When a player is holding a pocket pair that completes to three on the flop, it is a set, which is more powerful hand than trips because it is hidden. A board that makes a set out of pocket 3s may not look threatening at all and players who have paired an Ace or other high face on board may continue betting into the pot. A set can be played more deceptively than trips since it is hidden, and a set is more likely to let a player keep opponents betting into a pot to make it bigger.
