Considering LASIK or LASEK surgery can involve many questions. How is it done? How do I know which doctor to choose? Is it safe? Will it last? What’s involved? The following information should be helpful, but you may still have questions regarding LASIK or LASEK surgery. LASIK and LASEK are two different types of procedures. LASIK cuts a thin flap into the eye’s surface that is then lifted. LASEK, on the other hand, involves lifting the epthelial layer of the eye from its surface and then applies laser energy for reshaping. With the new procedure, LASEK is a little more advanced and can work for people with higher prescriptions and thinner corneas. In the LASEK procedure, the eye surgeon would completely remove the cornea and the central cornea would be given a chance to reshape itself.
As I grow increasingly comfortable with the idea of LASIK or LASEK, I now need to research doctors and clinics. Sometimes consulting with the doctor and/or his staff can give you a good indication if that particular clinic is the place for you. However, getting recommendations from friends, family and co-workers are probably more beneficial. For peace of mind purposes, don’t overlook their wisdom.
