Seeing if LASEK Is for You

Considering LASIK or LASEK surgery can involve many questions. How is it done? How do I know which doctor to choose? Is it safe? Will it last? What’s involved? The following information should be helpful, but you may still have questions regarding LASIK or LASEK surgery. Since that will probably be the case, simply continue searching the Internet under New York LASEK. Many different sites will pop up and you will have a plethora of additional information to satisfy your intense curiosity. No one wants to go into something as technical as LASIK or LASEK without all your questions being met. After all we are talking about your eyes.

LASIK and LASEK are two different types of procedures. LASIK cuts a thin flap into the eye’s surface that is then lifted. Laser energy is applied to the eye for reshaping and then the flap is replaced. This flap acts as a bandage to increase healing time. LASEK, on the other hand, involves lifting the epthelial layer of the eye from its surface and then applies laser energy for reshaping. The epthelial layer is then replaced on the eye’s surface and covered by a BCL (a Bandage Contact Lens with no prescription) for healing purposes. Recover time is longer with LASEK and tradition LASIK surgery. Again, fully researching the difference is extremely helpful while you’re considering either procedure.

In New York City, there are main type of surgery that people are usually asking for is LASEK surgery. This is a type of LASIK surgery, but a little different. With the LASIK surgery the eye surgeon will make an incision in the cornea with a laser and leave a small section intact, creating a small hinge. Once the cornea is pealed back, the eye surgeon will then use laser pulses to make any corrections the eye needs to lessen the dependency on eye glasses and contacts.

With the new procedure, LASEK is a little more advanced and can work for people with higher prescriptions and thinner corneas. In this procedure, instead of leaving a section of cornea uncut, creating a small hinge. In the LASEK procedure, the eye surgeon would completely remove the cornea and the central cornea would be given a chance to reshape itself.

As I grow increasingly comfortable with the idea of LASIK or LASEK, I now need to research doctors and clinics. Sometimes consulting with the doctor and/or his staff can give you a good indication if that particular clinic is the place for you. However, getting recommendations from friends, family and co-workers are probably more beneficial. For peace of mind purposes, don’t overlook their wisdom.
