Competing Successfully at Job Faires

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Standing out at a Job Fair can make a difference in your search. Job Fairs are starting to pick up, and a major job search company is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a SF Bay Area Job Faire in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and Dice has 82 job faires scheduled for 2010 across the US.

How do you stand out at a Job Fair? The contention can be significant, but you can help yourself jump out from the herd with advance preparation. At AA-Careers, we have a simple step-by-step process to get ready. Planning to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, investigate the companies that are going and pick your targets. Use the internet to check out the organizations that are there ahead of time. Go to their sites and see if they have their jobs posted. Pick a limited number to target, and get ready to spend an hour or more researching each one. It’s hard to do more than ten in a day, and five or six is a much more reasonable target. For each company, you want to know: executive names, recent news, and key product lines. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You should end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job postings on the web, read them to see what the organization is looking for. Create a mapping of your achievements and skills to the requirements of the job. Make the nomenclature match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The achievements should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘short sales pitch’ for each potential company/position combination. Write down a ninety second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud describing why you are a great candidate for that position. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet people at the job booth.

Fourth, modify your resume for each position. The objective on your resume should exactly match the job you’re aiming for. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job requirements. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be obvious to see that you’re a match based on your resume.

Fifth, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each spot – bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a distinctly tagged folder. Keep them in a light briefcase or folio.

Finally, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress well and be fittingly groomed. Avoid strong cologne or perfume…use any eau de cologne or scent meagerly, if at all.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

Control Your Debt: Create a Personal Monthly Budget

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

If you’re reading this article, you’re most likely looking for a way to have control of your finances. The best way to do this is to create a monthly budget and committing to it. Having a solid budget is fundamental for managing your finances, one that has allowed me to live well even on limited funds. One of the most important things that I do every month is planning my monthly budget, this has allowed me to consistently meet all expenditures, grow my savings, and reduce debt.

I map out my budget for the upcoming month on about the 20th of the current month. This provides me with a better view of my expenditure in the upcoming month. It’s not a good idea to produce a budget after getting paid because, too often, that flush feeling of having a paycheck results to uneccessary and spontaneous spending before the paycheck ever reaches the bank.

Managing my personal budget involves outlining all the things that must be paid that month like mortgage/rent, utility bills, and other necessities like insurance, auto loan repayment, transportation costs, and phone. These are the crucial things that I must pay to keep a comfortable roof over my head. I like to pad these requirements to produce “money back” after paying the bills and, if costs increase circumstantially, I’m always covered.

Next, my budget is subjected to a list of discretionary things I need to cover but could live without if absolutely necessary. An example are monthly savings deposits, credit card repayments and donations. These things are also important, but in case of emergency I could put them off for a short time. By paying credit card companies the maximum instead of the minimum, I keep my credit score high and my debt low.

My budget does not include the cost of living such as food and entertainment. These expenses get covered by what’s left over and that’s that. Some months involve lots of beans and rice, slow-cooker meals, free or cheap entertainment, and only one inexpensive piece of clothing . This strategy of overseeing my monthly budget has worked out very well over the long term as long as I observe it religiously.

How I Stopped Balding

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Although my dad had a receding hairline, I never imagined hair loss would affect me. My hairline began receding shortly before my thirtieth birthday. It was tough to think that I was losing my hair. I even started balding on the back of my head.

For the first time in my life, I felt old. I felt like the best years of my life were behind me. I even ceased seeing other people. My love life was almost non-existent. There was one girl I had been dating nonchalantly and even though I liked her, I just stopped returning her calls. I realized that I hadn’t found the woman of my dreams with a full head of hair so there was no way I was going to find somebody with my growing bald spot. I was too depressed to even try having a romantic kinship.

Hair loss affected me enormously, it transformed me from a confident person to a depressed loner. I’ve I have never been one to just sit back and let problems overwhelm me. I started trying several hair loss treatments that are available over the counter. Nothing I got from the drug store worked and trust me, I gave them all a go . After spend lots of money on products, I stopped trying for a while. It was a real low point in my life. I even stopped going out with my friends, I was so lonely.

Fortunately, one night a acquaintance dragged me out of the house for a few drinks. The first thing he found out about me was my mood, he knew that the hair loss has affected how I felt. He mentioned to me about the hair loss studio in the city. My friend had gone there for hair loss treatments and had been impressed with the results. I was even more impressed. My friend had a full head of hair and there was no sign of hair loss. He made me promise to give them a shot and I agreed.

I could not have been happier with the hair loss studio recommended to me. After just a few hair loss treatments, I had a full head of hair again. The results were outstanding, they did not just give me my hair back but also my self-confidence.

Divine Alchemist

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

If practitioners are doing it from their heart, if they’re creating with what they feel, then it is effortless. If they’re intellectually trying to make something happen, intellectually trying to say, “Well, okay, this particular Deity is the one I ’should’ be,”again, hear that value judgment there? “I should be doing, this is the color that should be there.” That’s going to exhaust them, that’s going to be very exhausting. That’s what happens as you get exhausted because you’re trying to force things, and the whole idea in this type of practice is to be at ease. We began this talk with the idea of the Divine Alchemist….

As I begin to have the continuity of expression flowing from the Heart of my Being, and I’m no longer attached to circumstances outside of myself telling me whether I have value or not; then I begin to act in the world, in this milieu of interpenetrating karmic patterns of everybody else and myselfand because I don’t have a value judgmentI begin in my actions to offer options, to offer possibilities, both for myself and for those who are interacting with me that are beyond the patterns that we all were working with. And so, in essence, we’re adding an alchemical quality. The old alchemist would bring in a quality into the solution, into the dance of molecules. And in bringing this quality in, it would enable the molecules to do something that they wouldn’t do normally. And lead would become gold.

And this has always been a symbolic or figurative notion, turning lead into gold. It’s almost like turning the defended personality or the old super-structure that was formed in childhood into a vessel, a holding environment of change.

Basically the analogy of lead into gold is that I can offer into the mix a quality of being that not only creates wholly new possibilities for me, beyond my fate, but alsobecause I’m doing it without any value judgmentit also creates new possibilities for those who are interacting with me. Now that’s pretty far-out.

My Hair Loss Story

Monday, August 24th, 2009

The day I begun noticing my receding hairline and bald spot getting bigger, I embarked on my hair loss treatment journey. I would spend hours and hours looking for ways to comb my hair a certain manner to conceal my hair loss. I got down to wear more and more hats on the weekends as I went out with my wife, friends or family. Walking in to work every morning was an unpleasant experience without my hat on. You change the way you think when you are experiencing hair loss. It is so true that you never know what you have until you lose it. That can be accurate about your hair loss.

As I looked in the mirror I began to treasure every one of the hair strands I had left. It was as if with each string of hair I lost, so was a small percentage of my self-confidence gone as well. A friend of mine had been experiencing the same problem as me. Yet recently he seemed so much more relaxed and I noticed that it was as if his hair was growing back. I didn’t wanted to bring it up but after a while I decided to ask. It was then that he told me about Advanced Hair Studio. With just a few treatments my friend Josh had not only regrown his hair, but his self-assurance as well. After speaking to Josh and understanding what Advanced Hair has done for him, I took the courage to make an appointment for a free consultation.

I was a little wary at first. Outcomes were evident within a few weeks. Not only on my scalp, but in my behaviour. I began to lose the hats on the weekends and I quickly began to feel better about myself. My wife who has been unhappy about my lack of interest in our relationship began to notice the change in that department as well. It is amazing how just a few trips to the Advanced Hair Studio had begun to change my life as a whole. I have constantly been cynical about people noticing my bald spot. Now, I am not frightened to look people in the eyes again as I have my full set of self esteem back.

Advance Hair Studio has not only given me back a full set of hair, but a big part of my confidence as well. So, if anyone is suffering from hair loss I highly recommend them. Don’t let your confidence continue to be lost with your hair.

Writing the Perfect Curriculum Vitae

Monday, July 6th, 2009

A resume introduces yourself to the future employer. It makes the first impression on the potential employer on the candidate’s skills, qualification, credentials and work experience. Thus, a quality well-written and well-structured curriculum vitae can often help secure an interview with the future employer.

While writing a resume, the focus must be on the prerequisites of the business and your capability to fit in the position put up. The curriculum vitae should be composed by combining the applicant’s skill sets and experience with the needs of the firm. It is composing about how an applicant can fulfill the demands of the certain position in the corporation.

There are several delusions on resume writing that requires clearing up. Trying to stand out among the crowd by making the curriculum vitae outstanding will not serve the purpose. The resume should not be something unusual, unique or tricky. However, if the facts are organised in a professional way, giving details applicable to the role’s requirements, it will definitely impress the recruitment agency to call the candidate for an initial interview.

The all-important target of a CV is to introduce the applicant and present the skill sets, qualification, experience and credentials of the individual so that the HR manager is impressed enough to call him/her for a face-to-face interview. The CV should only incorporate information, which is applicable to company’s requirements. This may include the experience of the candidate, which is beneficial for the role. Avoid composing a long history of your past job experiences.

A good, well-organised curriculum vitae is the key to opening the exact doors to the good chance in the job seeking process.

Finding True Identity with Medical Wigs

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

We couldn’t believe the sparkling Amelia Utsinger, my youthful partner in crime, might someday need a collection of medical wigs. Her voluminous hair and fashion flowed in sync with her indomitable look. But surprise surprise. The one and only remains celebrated for her trademark toss ‘n turn. Very few know she compensates for medical hair loss with quality black wigs. Guess it’s no secret anymore.

When we were young girls in the hill country, we once stole the spotlights to every dance. Of course, until her hair loss took effect and her hair thinned spottily. I hinted about some lace front wigs. But you know, she just shaved her head. She proudly unveiled her attitude.

Obliged to show at her fiance’s homecoming, we taunted the players till her loverboy retardedly launched the puck (or that thing they use) into the bleachers. With quick reflexes she tried to get it and her bandana flew right off, unveiling her thinning hair. Totally upreturbed, she hurled the thing with a tremendous heave into the goal. What’d I tell ya about her spunk?

But, nobody is perfect. Months later she invited me over for a mid-day lemonade chat, the day she grabbed my arm and told me that she prefers to do without hair out of anger. She dare not think about women’s medical wigs, despite the fact that she knew it was a good idea. Then just like that miss invincible changed the subject and requested that I shouldn’t concern myself with it. So I did.

We got so worried about her. Later on, I called about going shopping with me for a new lace front wig. After a long deliberation we ended up with the perfect solution: we’ll think of wigs as fashion, and we love fashion. We have a knack for making online wig shopping fun.

We had a great time, bewildered by how natural they looked. We never knew that lace front wigs were so natural for so many women. These wigs made her so lovely. As for me, put together a delightfully creative ensemble to go with our wigs. Out of solidarity, and that will surely endure. Not long ago she sent me her thanks for her human hand-crafted human hair wig, and said it brought about a new attitude that she’d forgotten. It’s my pleasure to see her strut her stuff like never before. We both are.

Motivation: 3 Ds that Can Change Your Life

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Desire

How bad do you want to beat Edgewater!! my high school football coach screamed in my face as he caught me going a little too easy one day in practice. That one has stayed with me because he was right, the amount of desire I had that day was showing up in the actions I was choosing to take. Desire is reflected in your actions. Desire with little or no action is not worth much. So ask your self frequently, “how much do I want this?”

Disgust

Not typically an emotion associated with positive change. Or is it? Have you ever been disgusted with a situation, a relationship or yourself. Most of us have, of course. But have you ever been so disgusted that you were motivated to change no matter what? Being sick and tired of being sick and tired with a situation can be a fantastic motivator for change when you decide “no more, not again, not ever!”

Decision

The root word for decision is incision, which means to cut. So when you decide, I mean really decide, that something will be different in your life, you “cut off” any other possibility. And it’s reflected in your view of and attitude toward life. Bill Marriot, of Marriot Hotels said, “Failure? I’ve never encountered it. I just stumbled over a few temporary setbacks.” That’s decision in motion.

10 Common Money And Success Myths – Part 2

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Here are a few commonly held beliefs, or “myths,” that hold many of us back from achieving success…

Myth #1: I don’t have what it takes to be successful and wealthy.

Fact: Successful people were not born that way. In fact, many of the most successful people today had very difficult lives. They were regular people who wished for more. And they decided to do something about it – to change their circumstances. Anyone can do the same, including you and I.

Myth 2: I don’t have any experience or education in anything.

Fact: Many successful people started with no experience. Many of them also flunked high school and never had any college education.

The only way to get real education and experience in anything is by doing, by “starting.” Once you start doing it, you learn very quickly.

Think of all the things that you know how to do. Driving a car, riding a bike, playing sports, reading, writing, speaking…even walking. All of these things have one thing in common: at one time in your life, you didn’t know how to do any of them.

And despite how impossible it seemed at the time, you decided to do it anyway. It’s the same with everything in life. You learn by doing. You get experience by doing something a few times. Get started. Do it once, twice, three times and you’re already on your way to becoming an expert in no time!

Myth 3: To be successful, I have to start a business, and I’m just not cut out to be a businessperson. I don’t have what it takes.

Fact: Listen…I know a few people who can barely read or write. Yet they’re running their own businesses. It’s scary, I know. But think about it…right now, at this moment, you’re already several giant steps ahead of them.

The only difference between a person who’s thinking about starting a business and another who is running a business is just that. One of them is doing what the other is only “thinking” of doing. They both had the same ideas and dreams. They both probably had the same doubts and fears as well. But one of them decided to start anyway, to take action despite the doubts and fears. One of them decided that if other people could do it, then he could as well.

Myth 4: Money isn’t that important.

Fact: Tell that to the family who’s starving right now, or to the family who needs money for serious medical help for a member of their family. They’ll tell you how important money is.

We’ve been conditioned from Day 1 to believe that money is not important. We have been conditioned to believe that wanting money is wrong and unethical. And yet the entire world seems to run on money.

It is one of the biggest myths known to man. And it’s one of the main reasons why the majority of the people are not wealthy.

Money is simply a way to measure the amount of value you create for others. If you have a lot of money, it means you have created a lot of value for other people. If you don’t have the kind of money you’d like to have, that simply means that you just haven’t yet found a way to produce the kind of value for others that you’re capable of, or the value that you’d like to.

Just look around you at the countries or even cities that have lack of money. You’ll find that in these same places, there are usually more crimes being committed, more people taking advantage of others, more diseases, more suffering, more deaths, and none or very little education.

Money may not be the most important thing in life, but let’s face facts here… Money is pretty darned important in this day and age. It’s how you support yourself! It’s how you buy food, water, shelter, and clothing. It’s how you pay the medical bills. It’s how you help and support others around you, including your loved ones. And we both know that those are very important things.

And by the way, if you feel that it’s more important to contribute to others than to be rich, well guess what, when you have more money, you can contribute more! You can do much more for others and you can help a lot more people when you have more money.

Only good things can come from having more money.

Myth 5: Money must be made slowly.

Fact: Nothing could be further from the truth. The only way to make money is to make it quickly! What good is money if you can’t enjoy it right now instead of 20 years from now? What good is money if you can’t contribute to others now as much as you’d like to, instead of 20 years from now?

The quicker you make money, the quicker you can change your life and the lives of those around you – for the better. There are no rules stating that money should be made slowly.

The only way to make money is to make it quickly! You will also find that the more money you make, the easier it becomes to make more because you begin to shift your focus from survival to abundance and contribution, in the process. And that shift in focus simply attracts more wealth to you.

You are the Master of Your Destiny

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Every thought of a human being is transformed as picture in everybody’s mind.

The picture transformed into your mind will be depending upon your thought. If your thought is about success, the picture transformed into your mind, will be as if you are getting success.

If your thought is failure, then the picture transformed into your mind will be as if you are getting failure.

Never think or doubt, when you begin with something that it will end in failure. If you think so, then that thought or doubt will be transformed as a ‘failure’ picture in your mind and your sub-conscious mind will direct your action according to that ‘failure picture’, which naturally your action will end in failure.

On the other hand, if you think on the other side, the thing will end in success, your thought will be transformed into the picture of success, and automatically your subconscious mind will direct the result to end in success. It is the secret of
nature.

Because you can yield only what you plant.

Planting of paddy yield only paddy and not wheat.

Planting of success in your mind only yield success and not failure.

Thoughts, picture, and action all have close interaction with each other. They cannot differ and distract at anytime.

For example, if you want to have your own house, think deeply about your dream house as if you have purchased a beautiful house.

Naturally your dream house will be transformed into as a picture in your mind. Your sub-conscious mind will direct you to convert that dream house into a real house. It will create circumstances and opportunities for you to convert that dream house into a
real house out of your own resources.

One single thought leads to many thoughts. If you want to be rich you should constantly think of having huge money. That one thought leads to many thoughts like huge bank balance, having beautiful house, variety of cars, beautiful ornaments, all
modern amenities, huge play ground, beautiful swimming pool in your house, and still many more thoughts.

Such a positive single thought is having a power to create so many positive thoughts.

Similarly it is not wonder that one single negative thought will also create so many negative thoughts.

So negative thoughts are also having equal power like positive thoughts power.

You cannot underestimate the power of negative thoughts.

Always think good, think positively.

Never let your mind to think negatively and practice to think positively, then every thing will happen in favor of you.
